Paper craft Sketches

Paper Craft Initial Sketch Concepts

Below are my 20 rough sketch concepts for our paper craft project. I tried to think of objects that I use a lot or that some people might associate with me, or some that just bring me joy. At this point, I wasn't really thinking about the paper folding techniques or how I might create a 3D version of the object out of paper.

Items from left to right: egg cup, book, ski's, carabiner, horseshoe, CD, earbuds, iPhone, running shoes, Stirling engine, road bike, bass guitar, dumbbell, water bottle, electric toothbrush, pizza, spatula, toque, purse, and a pint glass.

Final Three Concepts

Dumbbell

I chose the dumbbell because I think it would be very doable to fold one from paper, as it is made up out of simple shapes. I think a dumbbell would also be a comical approach to a paper craft project, as the material is feather light and defeats the purpose of the object.

Egg Cup

This object is the one that I think would be most difficult to create out of folding paper, however it is the object that I find most appealing. I love mundane little objects that have been made for a single specific purpose, and the egg cup perfectly exemplifies that.

Carabiner

My last object is a carabiner used in climbing. I have an attachment to this object because it represents a sport that I love, and it also represents and understanding of physics and a small-but-mighty metaphor. As a papercraft object this object would be simple enough to design but I think the moving/separate components would pose an interesting challenge.
